In the wake of CNOOC’s blockbuster bid for Nexen, Canada 2020 hosted an expert panel that explored what is at stake when state-owned enterprises seek to take over Canadian companies.
The panel explored whether there are strategic sectors in Canada that should be ‘protected’, and asked what makes us nervous about these kind of takeovers.
The panel also spent a great deal of time engaging in the notion that Canadians are more nervous about Chinese takeovers than takeovers from other countries.

This event was held on October 17th at the Chateau Laurier Hotel, 4:30 PM
As the government mulls over the blockbuster Nexen-CNOOC deal, and searches for the so-called ‘net benefit’, Canada 2020′s provocative and insightful panel helped our audience better understand the political, economic and global power issues at play. Hosted by Eugene Lang and moderated by Don Newman, the panel asked what precedent the decision will set for Canada’s strategic and trade relations and look at the implications for Canada’s economic future.

I am fine with the price of cheese, thanks. The analogy just does not fit (relevance) the conversation on policy.
