With the current Federal-Provincial health care agreement expiring in March, 2014, the debate over the shape of a future agreement has begun in earnest. Canada’s aging population will have more demands on a system already showing strains with fewer people paying to support it. New procedures and more effective drugs are prolonging life, but driving up costs beyond the rate of inflation and growth in population. And all of this is happening at a time that governments are grappling with deficits and the need to curb expenditures. What are the decisions that have to be made to create a more sustainable Canadian health care system beyond 2014?
