Anatomy of a Deal: LNG Canada & the Largest FDI in Canadian History

On December 13th, 2018, Canada 2020 will host a conversation about the recent $40 Billion LNG Canada investment – the single-largest private sector investment in Canadian history.

We want to know how the deal came to be, what problems it solves for Canada’s struggling resource sector, and how the government intends to work with industry, labour, and indigenous partners to deliver on this $40 billion investment.

Last October in Vancouver, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, alongside LNG CEO Andy Calitz, announced that British Columbia will soon be home to a new mega-pipeline and export infrastructure project which will see Canadian liquified natural gas shipped over land and sea to new markets around the world, primarily in Asia.

Vital to this announcement was a commitment by industry and labour partners: lower emissions, increased skills training and replacing demand for other more polluting fossil fuels in some of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
