Kate joins Canada 2020 starting January 2019 to develop a series of new projects

CANADA 2020 is happy to announce that Dr. Kate Graham will be joining the organization as a Senior Fellow starting January 2019.
Kate will work with the Canada 2020 team to develop a series of new multimedia research projects that focus on women in politics and gender equality in our democratic processes.

About Dr. Kate Graham

KATE GRAHAM researches, writes, speaks and teaches about politics in Canada. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. Her areas of focus include Canadian politics, local government, urban politics and public policy.
Her PhD dissertation, Leading Canada’s Cities: A Study of Urban Mayors, examined the role and power of big city mayors in Canada and eventually turned into what is affectionately known as the “Mayors Project” (see: MayorsProject.ca).
Kate is a regular media commentator and speaker on local politics in Canada. Kate teaches in the Political Science departments at Western University (Local Government Program), King’s University College and Brescia University College.
Before entering academia, Kate spent a decade working as a public servant. Most recently she served as the Director, Community & Economic Innovation at the City of London where she was responsible for the City’s government relations, strategic initiatives, culture and economic partnerships portfolios.
Kate is an active community member and volunteer. She served as the Chair of the Pillar Nonprofit Network Board of Directors, on the Executive of the ReForest London Board of Directors, and as a volunteer for numerous community organizations. She was named one of London’s Top 20 Under 40 in 2015. Kate has also dabbled in politics herself, including running in the 2018 Provincial Election in Ontario.

Bob Woodward was described by Rolling Stone’s Ryan Bort as “one of the most revered and well-respected journalists in American history.”

Woodward’s new book Fear provides an intimate portrait of U.S. President Donald Trump’s first year in the Oval Office. It reveals unprecedented detail on his decision making on major foreign and domestic policies, and White House top aids engaging in what Woodward refers to as “an administrative coup d’etat.”

Call for Proposals: Web Development

Canada 2020 is seeking to engage the services of an experienced web developer to relaunch canada2020.ca and its associated project web properties.

In 2019, Canada 2020 will launch a new version of Canada2020.ca. To accomplish this, we require the assistance of an experienced web developer or firm to work with our Ottawa-based team on the conception, build and launch of a new web property.
The winning firm will:

  • Have experience working with content-creators
  • Prioritize smart, clean and user-friendly, intuitive design
  • Deliver a product Canada 2020 can (mostly) manage itself

Project Specifications

The new Canada2020.ca will host:

  • Content-rich information about upcoming events
  • Unique, mobile-friendly, project-specific micro-sites
  • A clean and intuitive publishing platform

Canada2020.ca will be maintained by the Canada2020 team, with occasional supplemental support from your firm or contractors.

Our Process

October 2018: Interested firms should send an Intent to Submit notice to [email protected] which includes company or contractor information, samples of work, and your proposed CMS.
November 1, 2018: Approved firms selected to submit a detailed proposal will be contacted
November 16, 2018, 5 PM: Deadline for approved proposal submissions.
End November 2018: Interviews and selection
December 1, 2018: Project begins

Release: Canada 2020 appoints new Executive Director

Alex Paterson to serve as the progressive organization’s Executive Director

September 23 2018 (Montreal) – Canada 2020 has appointed Alex Paterson its new Executive Director, effective immediately. 
The announcement was made at the Global Progress 2018 Summit in Montreal, where Canada 2020 is hosting policy leaders, philanthropists, and other think tank executives to discuss the future of work, democracy and society in the digital age.
The Executive Director – a new role for the organization – will report directly to Canada 2020’s Board of Directors, and be responsible for fundraising and development, organizational management, setting the research and content agenda, and talent recruitment. 
Originally hired to the organization in 2011 as an intern to Diana Carney, then-Vice President of Research, Alex has been a staple of Canada 2020 programming ever since.
