Release: Canada 2020 appoints new Executive Director

Alex Paterson to serve as the progressive organization’s Executive Director

Alex Paterson ED
September 23 2018 (Montreal) – Canada 2020 has appointed Alex Paterson its new Executive Director, effective immediately.
The announcement was made at the Global Progress 2018 Summit in Montreal, where Canada 2020 is hosting policy leaders, philanthropists, and other think tank executives to discuss the future of work, democracy and society in the digital age.
The Executive Director – a new role for the organization – will report directly to Canada 2020’s Board of Directors, and be responsible for fundraising and development, organizational management, setting the research and content agenda, and talent recruitment.
Originally hired to the organization in 2011 as an intern to Diana Carney, then-Vice President of Research, Alex has been a staple of Canada 2020 programming ever since.

“Canada 2020 has taken great strides since its founding in 2006, and I’m pleased that we’re taking another step today with Alex’s appointment. Now more than ever, we need smart, creative and engaged people enriching our policy community, and I know Alex shares the Board’s enthusiasm for convening around big ideas. The organization is in good hands.”

Tom Pitfield, Chairman of the Board of Canada 2020.

“I’m grateful to the Board for the trust they’ve placed in me at a truly exciting time for our organization. Think tanks and policy organizations like ours are evolving – trying new things, reaching new audiences, and informing the public discourse in new ways. As Canada 2020 thinks past its namesake year, I’m honoured that I get to continue working with our talented team. Expect big things from Canada 2020 in the months and years ahead.”

Alex Paterson, Executive Director, Canada 2020

Prior to joining Canada 2020, Paterson worked as a producer for CBC Newsworld, a Communications Officer for Greenpeace Canada, and a sustainability consultant at Stratos Inc.
Alex holds an Honour’s Bachelor degree in Media and the Public Interest from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Public Administration from Carleton University.
